Rigid Materials

BenchRebel currently offers two rigid materials. The properties of a given raw material vary greatly in their strengths, and no single property trumps all others. For example, Rigid 4000 finishes smooth, stiff, and is ideal for think-walled parts; Rigid 10K is the stiffest material offered, finishes matte, and highly resistant to both heat and chemicals.

The examples highlighted above, and many more variables, will impact how a product is designed and manufactured. To help with that decision, design guidelines are provided below.

Design Guidelines

Rigid 4000

Rigid 10K

Rigid 4000 is a glass-filled resin that prints with a smooth, polished finish. Ideal for stiff, strong parts that can withstand minimal deflection. This material is a good choice for general load bearing, printing thin walls and features.

Rigid 4K is a highly glass-filled resin and the stiffest material offered. Best used for precise industrial parts that must withstand significant load without bending. This resin finishes smooth with a matte finish and is highliy resistant to heat and chemicals.

  • Mounts and brackets
  • Jigs and fixtures
  • Thin-walled parts
  • Simulates the stiffness of PEEK
  • Note: more brittle than the Tough series of materials
  • Prototypes requiring the toughness, compliance and resilience of polypropylene
  • Tough and rugged enclosures with functional elements like self-tapping screw bosses and snap fits
  • Impact resistant jigs and fixtures that survive long term use
  • Parts that need a combination of stiffness and ductility to create compliant mechanisms like latches, flexures, and dampers
  • Safe for skin (wearables)
